A major goal of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ National Quality Strategy is better health for people and communities. One step toward achieving this goal is promoting the best possible prevention and treatment of the leading causes of mortality.
MetaStar is pleased to announce that as part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services  national quality improvement program, we are partnering with WHITEC , physicians, patients and the community to improve rates of immunizations and cancer screenings and improve outpatient cardiovascular care. Specifically we are focused on:
Immunizations
Promoting effective strategies for delivering influenza and pneumococcal vaccines to high-risk persons, medical providers and household contacts. Interventions that include health information technology have the potential to improve immunization rates through timely notification of providers and patients when a vaccination should be scheduled. In addition, we are working with physician offices to electronically submit adult immunization data to the Wisconsin Immunization Registry.
Cancer Screenings
Improving colorectal cancer and breast cancer screening rates.
Cardiovascular Disease
Improving appropriate low-dose aspirin therapy and cholesterol control in patients with ischemic vascular disease, blood pressure control in patients with hypertension, and tobacco cessation intervention among patients who smoke (screening and cessation counseling) in alignment with the Million Hearts Campaign .
Physician Quality Reporting System
For physician practices with electronic health records (EHRs), we can assist with activities related to the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and improving the use of EHR for care management. We are also committed to identifying and eliminating disparities within identified communities in our state.
To support these activities we are launching a Learning and Action Network and offering direct technical assistance. By joining MetaStar in this initiative you will have access to educational programming, best practices, peer-to-peer review, and intervention tools to assist in using your EHR to improve the use of preventive services and help your patients avoid preventable health care conditions. Our assistance will promote Health IT in clinical practice and will align with PQRS reporting requirements and EHR incentives related to Meaningful Use.
