For over 50 years, MetaStar has worked to effect positive change in health and healthcare. Established following the US Congress legislation to review the necessity, appropriateness, and quality of medical care provided to Medicare beneficiaries, the organization was originally known as the Wisconsin Professional Peer Review Organization or WisPRO.
In the early 1990’s, a new role for peer review organizations emerged – one of collaborative technical assistance – leading to the Wisconsin Peer Review Organization becoming MetaStar, meaning to guide change.
The organization’s scope has evolved to include quality assurance, quality improvement, community convening, and performance measurement. However, our vision — optimal health for all — has and will always serve as our North Star.
